Mike Nelson Mike says gospel music has been in his blood as long as he can remember. His dad, Bill Nelson sang with The Swanee River Boys while he was growing up. When Bill Carver, Buford and Merle Abner retired from The Swanee River Boys, he and his brothers Chris, Marc took their places singing with their dad as The Young Sound of The Swanee River Boys, then changed the name to The Nelson Four. They had the privilege to sing back up vocals for Jean Shepard on the Grand Ole Opry. Mike's dad sang with David Reece and The New Rangers Trio until David's death and in 2006 his dad passed on the Rangers name to Mike. Mike said that being a Rangers Trio fan since he was young, it was the greatest honor that could have happened to him. After being out of gospel music for several years, Mike says its a great privilege to now have the chance to start again with the gospel group he dreamed of singing with when he was young. And now being able to sing with his dad again is just one of the greatest things the Lord has done for him.

Bill Nelson Bill's gospel singing career began at an early age. His father pastored the 18th Street Baptist Church in Huntington, WV. Gospel singers featuring many of the professional quartets was a major influence on his calling. Singing n local group with a burning love and desire to one day sing full time. Horace Floyd, first tenor with the Swanee River Boys resigned to form the monitors quartet in Indianapolis, IN called Bill to join the group. (God answered his prayers). The Monitors were contracted by the Cadle Tabernacle Daily Radio, Coast to Coast. Two years later Buford Abner of the Swanee River Boys recruited Bill to sing baritone, become manager and MC with gospel music's most stylistic group. From staff television work in Indianapolis the group was contracted by Skylite Sing Recordings Co. and relocated in Nashville, TN in the late 60's. With years' of touring, stateside, overseas' with USO, recordings and Skylite Television shows took its toll and the group retired. Bill was the only member to continue in gospel music, thanks to his #1 fan, his wife, Jeanie, Along with life long friends, Glenn Payne and George Younce of the Cathedrals. David Reece had retired his Rangers Trio at this time. He and Bill over the years would joke about growing old and saying let's sing together when that times comes for us. It it's told, Bill called David, and said it's time. Bill could not deal with his emptiness and love of gospel music, so he and David reorganized the Rangers. Recording for the Burke Music Group, feature Video Productions by Charlie Wallers Grand Ole Gospel. They also recorded with Eddie Crooks' Morning Star label before David's health failed. David had passed the legal rights to name and to continue the Rangers Trio to his partner and friend Bill, of which he put on hold and undecided of it's future. As time went on, Lem Kinslow was reorganizing the Jordan River Boys Quartet after the death of Coy Cook and London Paris. Bill jointed the group with Lem, Dwayne Harris and Charlie Witty. A true Southern gospel quartet. After six years Bill chose to retire, however in the making was a trio being formed by Bill's son Michael Nelson. You guessed it, they needed a name. Bill transferred the name and rights to the Rangers. You guessed it again, Bill joined Michael, David Wright and Arlyn Hill, on keyboard as the Rangers Trio. Listen and you will hear the original sound born by David Reece.

Arlyn Hill - Keyboard Arlyn's most interest as a child was making music. His teachers were amazed at his advanced ability. His early teens were spent playing organ concerts for dinner clubs. After the military, Annette came into his life. In the 60's the first group he played piano for was the Sacred Tones Quartet. Later with his wife, he formed the Arlyn Hill Singers and their TV program of Southern Gospel Music. He played with Family Blues Bands and for the Local Promise Keepers. This was followed by being an organist at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon, TN, and then by playing keyboard for a group called the Keenagers. His God given talent truly matches the unique style and sound of the Ranger. |
